"Finally got the opportunity to fish down in San Diego again. Thought of booking a hotel to stay in the area the night before, but nah. Went with the full hardcore experience with waking up at 2 AM and making the two hour drive down. Been watching the fish counts with the amount of yellowtail the SD boats have been catching. Heard great things about the Mission Belle so a friend and I hopped on a Sunday trip. Got there an hour before the trip and there was parking available and for $15 I believe for the whole day. We fished at the Coronado islands so yes you do need to present your passport at the ticket office while you check in. Mexican fishing license additional. When it was time to board, the deckhand helps you up and also holds onto your rods while you balance and board. I thought I was going overboard with the amount of rods I brought, but I did end up using my four rods. Had brought a lighter setup with 20 lbs and up to 40 lbs. Boat stopped at the bait barge to get sardines. Saw some chovy in the tanks too. I think it took about an hour and half to reach the islands where we stopped first to fish. Nice quick nap to prepare for the fishing mayhem. There were already quite a few boats out there. When the captain located the school it didn't take long for anglers to be hooked up. When I got a yellow on my line, it put up a good fight. Felt like a really nice fish maybe 30 lbs. My braided line ended up tangling on itself as I was reeling the fish in. Unfortunately when the deckhand was trying to help untangle it the fish came off. He was kind to help me re-tie the top shot on after cutting the braid. Fish moved on and so did we. I think we went down further south close to Rosarito beach as well. It took me while to hook another one and this time I got it in the boat and caught my first yellow! Was about a 15 lber. Everyone was mostly using sardines. At one spot the captain told us to drop quickly and many people got hooked up on the yoyo irons. That didn't last long so we searched for more different spots. Fishing picked up around noon where people also caught big fat barracudas and calico bass. Surface irons also worked and my friend and I tried colt snipers. He caught one with it and he was using mostly jigs the whole trip. Saw a couple big sculpin and a big whitefish also plucked. I did hook up a third yellow and cuda, but they broke off. We had a solid 51 yellowtail that day. Went back to the islands for one last look. We stayed out a little longer, but that was alright. Captain wanted us to have more opportunities to catch fish. Thanks to captain Steve to help coach me while being tangled with the others and also Jack and Taylor for the assistance. They work hard for us have a good time on the boat. Can't forget galley cook Karen for the good food. The deckhands remembered my request of keeping some extra collars and roe. I'll be back again one day and seems like the half day boat the Daily Double has been on fire with the yellows too lately."
"We chartered a boat and had an amazing experience from start to finish. Fred and Mimi were incredibly helpful, Captain Tony put us right on the fish, and the cook made an excellent breakfast and lunch. Chad got us all rigged up and even helped me fight off a sea lion so I could land my yellowtail! We had the best time and can’t wait to do it again."
"Excellent charter. Great crew. Great value for the money. Boat was awesome, heads were clean, food and beer were great. Jack and Anthony were awesome. They were very patient and very helpful with all the fishermen. A+++ would recommend."
